Ukrainian Institute
The Ukrainian Institute of America, at 2 East 79th Street, is a 6-story (plus cellar) historic landmark building with a gross area of approximately 21,000 square feet.
GOCO upgraded mechanical and electrical systems in this historic building. It was constructed in 1898 as a house, and remained a residence until purchased by the Ukrainian Institute in 1955. Since then, areas on the 1st through 4th floors were opened to the public for various functions such as concerts, lectures, conferences and exhibits and for a library on the 4th floor. Some of the 1st floor is now office space. The 5th floor remains residential for the caretakers. The 6th floor is used for the keeping of artifacts and paintings, as are various storage rooms on all other floors of the building. The cellar and roof contain the building’s electrical, mechanical and elevator equipment as well as additional workspace.
