This
project involved the MEP design for the complete renovation of the former
Swingline staple factory in Long Island City. MoMA's new, temporary location
contains 120,000 SF feet on two levels, plus a 20,000 SF basement.
The
facility houses permanent state-of-the-art archives for the Museum, a portion of
its library collections, the renowned film stills collection, fine arts
collection storage space and temporary exhibition galleries. Also included in
the design were study centers, a reading room for scholars and the public; and
laboratories where photography and conservation work could take place.
An important aspect of this design was the critical climate control for
preservation of archived material.
