At 2.2 million SF, the Morgan Processing and Distribution center sits in Manhattan’s Chelsea district as one of the USPS’s largest distribution centers. As part of the CFC reduction program, we were tasked with replacing four 1500-ton steam chillers with four 1500-ton electric chillers using HCFC 123.
The project required a consolidation of power to attach these chillers to the existing service because the Con Edison incoming electrical service was not being increased. The fourth chiller was also attached but the electrical system was designed so only three chillers could be energized at once.
