The Vassar campus comprises over 1,000 acres (400 ha) and more than 100 buildings, including two national historic landmarks.
Our comprehensive design for this project involved a single central chiller plant to replace the eight existing electric chiller plants which served 14 buildings. The new plant, located in the center of the campus, serves 17 buildings.
The plant consists of:
- A 1000-ton high-efficiency electric centrifugal chiller
- A 1000-ton gas-fired absorption chiller Primary CHW pumps
- CHW distribution pumps
- CW pumps and cooling towers
- Distribution piping
A new underground distribution system linking each building to the new chiller plant was designed to avoid any damage to the famed campus landscape.
